Entry-Level Survey Technician – LiDAR Extraction
Meridian Engineering is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Entry-Level Survey Technician to join our Survey team. This position supports LiDAR extraction and the development of roadway terrain and surface models for transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Utah.
You’ll work with industry-leading technology and software—including OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, and TopoDOT—to transform LiDAR point cloud data into accurate engineering deliverables. If you’re eager to build technical skills and begin a career in surveying, mapping, or geospatial technology, we’d love to hear from you.
No prior OpenRoads Designer or TopoDOT experience is required.
We provide training for the right candidate. Experience with CAD software is a strong advantage but is not required.

Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Interest in surveying, mapping, engineering, or geospatial technology.
- Willingness to learn new software and technical workflows.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Dependable, motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Process and extract information from LiDAR point cloud data.
- Create and validate terrain and surface models for roadway and infrastructure projects.
- Follow established QA/QC procedures to ensure accurate, high-quality deliverables.
- Support survey and engineering teams with timely, reliable project data.
- Learn and apply industry software, standards, and technical workflows.
Preferred, but not required:
- Basic understanding of surveying principles, coordinate systems, and data management.
- Familiarity with CAD, GIS, LiDAR point clouds, or civil engineering software.
- Coursework or experience in surveying, drafting, civil engineering technology, geomatics, GIS, or a related field.
