Vineyard Station and Double Rails Design

Summary

The Vineyard Connector is an essential regional connection from Orem to Lehi west of I-15. It is expected to help relieve congestion on I-15. During this project, Meridian developed a control network based on the UTA Frontrunner control system. Secondary control was established for design surveys with occupied controlling monumentation to perpetuate the existing corridor right-of-way for the design team efforts. Meridian surveyors developed a completed topographic survey for the new station site and the two-mile corridor for the second set of rails. Along with conventional survey methods, Meridian utilized UAV/UAS technology to fly the corridor and proposed station location with updated aerial images. Street views and panoramic pictures were generated for design team reference. LiDAR technology was utilized for safety, the risk of precision, and to minimize fouling the existing UTA and Union Pacific rails.

A bit of history

The corridor was cleared with a State Environmental Study in 2007.

Phase II of the Vineyard Connector is proposed to connect from Main Street to 1600 North in Vineyard to improve this metrocenter as a true transit oriented development that is compact, mixed-use, walkable, and livable with access to Utah Valley University campus, existing and future commercial districts, retail, class A office/ business areas and newly constructed residential units.
